Junior Tennis Programs

Tennis programs for kids include Group Lessons, Micro Tennis (follow link for information about these programs), and the USA Junior Tennis Team. Read below for information about the Junior Tennis Team program. Please feel free to contact Lori Kiser or Kim Davis if you have any questions about the program.

Junior Tennis Team Overview

This program is for the competitive junior player who thrives on competition and wants to be a part of a team. Top teams will go on to compete at the State tournament. Practices will include instruction from USPTA tennis professionals Lori Kiser and Kim Davis, emphasizing modern tennis techniques and strategies. Team members will perform conditioning exercises and will be educated on advanced tennis rules. To play on the tennis team, athletes will be required to pass a serve test, wherein they must get 9 out of 10 serves into the service box. We recommend that you practice serving with your child.

The Junior Tennis team will communicate via a weekly email newsletter with junior team competition results. A tennis notebook filled with tennis handouts and activities will be provided for each athlete to be used at practice.

Coaching Philosophy

1. Get lots of exercise.

2. Learn tennis and improve.

3. HAVE FUN!

Season Goals and Objectives

The coaches are planning for maximum participation among all teammates. If any team makes it to State, the coach will set forth the strongest lineup possible based on the online challenge ladder. All athletes will compete each Monday morning to develop match toughness in a USA Junior Team match or local scrimmage match. Each athlete will be required to set individual season goals and objectives.

Expectations

  • Code of Conduct: Athletes will sign a code of conduct and will be expected to follow it throughout the season. The USTA Point Penalty will be in effect for all matches. Please reference Athlete Code of Conduct handouts.

  • Spectators: Parents and spectators are welcome and encouraged at all junior team matches and scrimmages. Coaches and parents are NOT allowed to coach in this league during match play. In matches parents and coaches may only help with rule or scoring questions.

  • Communication: You are responsible for communicating your Monday availability to Lori. Lori will send match and scrimmage schedules by email every Wednesday evening. Please respond to the email by Friday at midnight prior to the match or Lori will assume your child is unable to play. The consequence of not responding to Lori’s email is that your child will only be scheduled for scrimmages for the remainder of the season. This rule is in effect to optimize playing time for all juniors and to show consideration and respect for others. Failure to attend a scheduled match or scrimmage will result in the player being taken off the schedule for the remainder of the season.

  • Proper Attire: Athletes are required to wear appropriate tennis attire to all matches and practices. Appropriate tennis attire includes shorts/skirts with pockets or there will be “special” shorts for you to wear at practice. Please wear team shirt to matches.

  • Safety: No dangerous horseplay! Members are expected to work as a team to clear any stray balls during all drills, practices, and matches. Jeopardizing personal safety or the safety of others will result in termination from the team with no refund.
